The Government of Ontario will provide the Town of Milton with $8.4 million through the Building Faster Fund, as the Town delivers on its pledge to build housing in complete communities.
The Building Faster Fund is a three-year, $1.2 billion program that encourages municipalities to deliver on housing targets. Funds flow to municipalities that reach at least 80 per cent of their provincially assigned housing target for the year.
In 2023, the Town of Milton exceeded its housing target of 1,540 housing starts by 27 per cent. The 1,952 housing starts in Milton last year included 1,404 housing starts, 356 conversions and 192 long-term care beds.
The Town has pledged to facilitate construction of 21,000 housing units by 2031, to support the Province’s goal to build 1.5 million homes over the next 10 years. The pledge demonstrates Milton’s commitment to its growth strategy and to working in partnership with the development community.
As the Town builds complete communities for residents and continued business development, its growth strategy will focus on:
- Preserving prime agricultural land and natural heritage areas.
- Making sure future and planned neighbourhoods include compact community designs, with a variety of housing options.
- Creating walkable neighbourhoods with public transit hubs that are pedestrian and cyclist friendly.
- Meeting market demand for traditional and mixed-use employment land in the right places.
