Below is the latest monthly new home starts data for the Halton Region, broken down by municipality and dwelling type, as well as a few notable highlights. This information comes direct from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).
May Highlights:
- In May, there were 119 new home starts in Halton Region, mostly consisting of ground-oriented homes in Oakville. See neighbourhood spotlight in the link below for more details.
- In the first five months of 2026, there were 561 new home starts in Halton Region. This year’s activity was 67% below the January to May ten-year median of 1,705, which is a benchmark for the typical number of starts in the region.
- In Oakville, there were 268 new home starts in the first five months of 2026, which was 70% below their January to May benchmark of 892 starts.
- In Milton, there were 233 new home starts in the first five months of 2026, which was 26% below their January to May benchmark of 316 starts.
- In Burlington, there were 26 new home starts in the first five months of 2026, which was 90% below their January to May benchmark of 271 starts.
- In Halton Hills, there were 34 new home starts in the first five months of 2026, which was equal to their January to May benchmark of 34 starts.
