Below is the latest monthly new home starts data for the Halton Region, broken down by municipality and dwelling type, as well as a few notable highlights. This information comes direct from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).
June Highlights:
- In June, there were 514 new home starts in Halton Region, mostly consisting of apartments in Oakville. See neighbourhood spotlight in the attachment for more details.
- Year-to-date new home starts in Halton Region reached 1,075, which was 48% below the January to June ten-year benchmark of 2,065 starts.
- In Oakville, there were 727 new home starts in the first half of 2026, which was below their January to June ten-year benchmark of 1,096 starts.
- In Milton, there were 262 new home starts in the first half of 2026, which was below their January to June ten-year benchmark of 349 starts.
- In Burlington, there were 31 new home starts in the first half of 2026, which was below their January to June ten-year benchmark of 348 starts.
- In Halton Hills, there were 55 new home starts in the first half of 2026, which was above their January to June ten-year benchmark of 35 starts.
- Given the high volume of permit-approved units currently in the pipeline, expect robust near-term housing starts in Halton Region, with activity heavily concentrated in Oakville.
