Halton Region New Home Starts – July 2026

Below is the latest monthly new home starts data for the Halton Region, broken down by municipality and dwelling type, as well as a few notable highlights. This information comes direct from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). 

July Highlights:

  • In July, there were 359 new home starts in Halton Region, with activity heavily concentrated in Milton. See neighbourhood spotlight in the attachment for more details.
  • Year-to-date new home starts in Halton Region reached 1,434, which was well below the January to July ten-year benchmark of 2,484 starts.
  • In Oakville, there were 835 new home starts in the first seven months of 2026, which was below their January to July ten-year benchmark of 1,281 starts.
  • In Milton, there were 510 new home starts in the first seven months of 2026, which was below their January to July ten-year benchmark of 605 starts.
  • In Burlington, there were 31 new home starts in the first seven months of 2026, which was below their January to July ten-year benchmark of 410 starts.
  • In Halton Hills, there were 58 new home starts in the first seven months of 2026, which was above their January to July ten-year benchmark of 41 starts.
  • Given the high volume of permit-approved housing units currently in the pipeline, expect robust near-term housing starts in Halton Region, with activity heavily concentrated in Oakville.
